WARNING: I am grumpy today. GRUMPY.
Reading articles such as the DC woman who murdered her 2 adopted children and kept one alive who escaped and is in the hospital beaten severely, tick me off. They don’t just tick me off, they really piss me off. Ever since I read this situation, I have been pissed.
Adopted kids have been through so much already, they don’t need these psychotic nutcases being in charge of them. You can’t predict the abusers right? I say that, its one of my beliefs. Abusers can’t be predicted, because if people started trying to predict the abusers the adoption industry would have a field day with wrongful diagnosis’s and more children into their market. I can see it now, they would be taking children from their mothers at birth, forced adoptions based on assumptions etc. etc. So many unecessary adoptions would happen in my opinion.
Yet here we are, with 3 adoptees who should have been looked after more. Child welfare should have been checking up on them more. Yes their adoptions were in 2001 and 2004, but there should be some type of regulation on placement ( here is that “child placement reform” tag again ) where children have regular visits after placement. Where the adoptive parents have continual monitoring, because adoption isn’t like having your own natural family, adoption is different.
I see adoptees as more fragile, from the loss, the trauma, and especially those from foster care.
“There is pressure across the board to get those adoption numbers up,” Richard Wexler, executive director of the National Coalition for Child Protection Reform, said Tuesday. “My question is: Did the D.C. workers have the time to look at it case by case?”
I wonder if the infant adoption market and industry wasn’t so “in demand” would the workers have more time to follow up, and look at each individual case? I guess that is foster care, and infant / newborns are often private adoptions or agency adoptions, but sometimes they’re not. There has got to be a way to weed out all of this unnecessary separation and focus on the children who need the focus. I find myself with this unsettling resentment towards people looking into private or agency adoptions of white newborn infants, because I see so many of them that are unnecessary. I don’t want to have those feelings, but I do, I really do.
If that demand wasn’t there, if mothers got support to parent, so many adoptions would be reduced and the focus could be on the foster children and youth. That is where the focus needs to be. Even then they get their records sealed, even then they have rights that are unjustifiable and if there wasn’t soo much hoopla and distraction being done from the infant adoption industry, the money makers, maybe just maybe we could empty out the foster system and work on family values, parenting, family bonding, child growth and development, and healing our society.
Midnight thoughts from a disgruntled adoptee.
Oh yeah, most recent article on the DC murders ( which I quote above ) found here.
