Every time I read a report like this… I cry. We need more than a moment of silence for all of the thousands of children who have fallen through the gaping holes of the system. This system is supposed to be for them, it was supposed to be for me, it was supposed to help the children who needed help the most.
Its no wonder so many of us have lost faith and trust in humanity, when humanity, our parents, our caretakers, and safety nets have failed us over and over again.
Adopted son subjected to abuse
Thursday, April 02, 2009, 10:00The abuse included the woman throwing boiling spaghetti in the boy’s face when she could not cope with his behaviour.
The judge who heard the case at Exeter Crown Court this week heavily criticised the adoption agency and social services for not picking up on clear warning signs.
An investigation into abuse of the boy was carried out in November 2005 but failed to find sufficient evidence. Fresh allegations of abuse came to light in September last year, which prompted the recent investigation.
Devon County Council refused to answer questions yesterday or make any comment on what action was taken to ensure the boy’s welfare after the first investigation.
But a leading children’s charity said the case was “very concerning” and pointed to “inadequate monitoring”.
This latest case of serious abuse follows last week’s conviction of baby killer Brian Saunders, who was jailed for life with a minimum of 18 years for the murder of his five-week-old son Rilee in Torpoint, South East Cornwall, despite having earlier convictions for violence against a pregnant girlfriend and child cruelty.
In the Exeter case, the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to child cruelty but walked free from court after being given a conditional discharge. The court heard she was one of the first lone parents in Devon to be allowed to adopt a child.

She abused him “when she could not cope with his behaviour.” Because we all know adopted kids are problematic.
Telling us why she says she threw boiling pasta in his face is a bit like reporting what a rape victim was wearing at the time. It’s completely beside the point and reads like a veiled attempt to blame the victim.

i thought the same thing Laurel, and I agree totally with you. Its a dismissive, lack of responsibilty, crap line. ha ha if that makes sense at all. Adoptees are blamed so often, like you know we should just be grateful for this crap because we coulda been aborted yada yada.
We should have a moment of silence for this poor boy, in fact, I will now.

That’s terrible… I honestly don’t understand how people like that manage to adopt… Seriously… what is the world coming to?

I agree in some cases money is the main reason people adopt. Then the real people do it for love.I just wish we could see the greedy.

I don’t think Gershom meant people adopt to get money, rather that their money is what allows abusive people to adopt.
